How We Review
Every review on this site is based on real visits, not press trips. We pay our way, we eat what the locals eat, and we return when we're unsure. Our rating system is simple: 5 stars means the sandwich alone justifies the trip. 4 stars means it's excellent and worth going out of your way for. 3 stars means it's good and earns its local reputation. We don't publish reviews below 3 — if we went and weren't impressed, we came back and gave it another chance first.
We focus on places with a distinct point of view — a sandwich that could only come from that place, that culture, that tradition. Chains that have perfected a regional style are included. Restaurants that happen to have sandwiches on the menu are not.
